MONSTER TROUT

Truly memorable captures come along only rarely in any angler’s lifetime. In this episode, Peter Morse lands one of the biggest brown trout to be taken on fly in Australia since the heydays of Lake Pedder. This massive sea-runner, from the wilds of the Arthur River in western Tasmania, has to be seen to be believed.

As a bonus, Murray ‘Muz’ Wilson shows exactly how to tie the fly on which it was caught … Priceless!

HIGHLAND LAKE

Tasmania is Australia’s island state in the frigid Southern Ocean, and is well known for the quality of its trout fishery and the skills required to consistently catch fish. The wild brown trout there have have the reputation of being amongst the hardest of all to catch. Peter joins a local guide to fish a highland lake for these elusive trout.

SMALL STREAMS

The Alpine country contains the major fisheries for trout in Australia. Along with its huge reservoirs and large rivers, it has a patchwork of clear running small streams that are full of life. These are places for dry flies and fine light rods.

BACK COUNTRY TROUT

Ask a trout fisherman with experience in New Zealand’s South Island where to fish, and the answer will invariably be “anywhere there’s water”. Ask them how to fish and it’s a whole new world of knowledge and experience. Join Peter Morse as he fishes with guide Nigel Birt on some rivers and streams where the fish are plentiful but tricky and the lessons are many and are freely passed on as they catch some ripper trout. Bonus – learn to tie the Bead head Pheasant Tail nymph.
